How We Help
International Tracing: Find a Family Member
Print  E-mail

The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago offers tracing and messaging services to reunite relatives separated by war, civil disturbance, or natural disaster. Through the Restoring Family Links program, a trained team of tracing volunteers work with national societies around the world to help families reconnect.

Tracing Services
We help families locate each other across international borders and learn each other's fate if contact was lost due to war, civil conflict, or natural disaster. This service can take anywhere from six months to several years. We are always accepting new cases.

  • Examples of Tracing Cases
The American Red Cross of Greater Chicago works through the Holocaust and War Victims Tracing Center to assist families affected by World War II and its aftermath. Currently in Chicago we are also working on cases including, but not limited to, people who were separated during conflict in Cambodia, Somalia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Red Cross Messages
We can help people living in the United States communicate with relatives living in foreign countries when there is no regular postal service.

For more information, or to locate a family member, contact our International Services department at (312) 729-6238 to speak to a trained caseworker. All information is kept confidential.
